Md. Ayub Miaji, Chandnaish: A bridge over the Sangu River at Naya Hat in Purangarh of Satkania Upazila, passing Chowkidar under the jurisdiction of Dohazari Municipality of Chandnaish Upazila of Chittagong District, has been a long-standing demand. The people of this area are going through various complications to see the coming light of the bridge. Recently, on the morning of December 23, project director Engineer Ebadat Ali and officials of the concerned department came to prepare a report for the approval of the Apros road and bypass road construction project. It is known that he has visited four times since 2018.
The issue was discussed with Chandanish Upazila Engineer Muhammad Junaid Abshar Chowdhury, who said that a project of 300 crore taka was previously proposed for the construction of the bridge. Later, the design of the bridge constructed on the Dhopachari link road from the Naya Hat link road was reduced to 100 crore rupees. The bridge was previously proposed to be 950 meters long under the second class at 300 crores, but due to the design change, the length of the third class was fixed at 400 meters at 100 crores.
He also said that the purpose of the inspection was to determine the necessary lac levels for ease of movement of Satkania-Bandarban vehicles on the Cox’s Bazar highway, avoiding congestion. For this, 30 crore rupees have been estimated for the acquisition of land for the construction of sufficient roads and bypass roads to take the bridge apros on both sides. As a result, about 170 crore rupees will be saved. He said that if a simple investigation is completed and a report is submitted on this matter in the first week of January, the 24-foot-wide bridge can be tendered in the next fiscal year, 2024.
