Nagar Reporter: The five-day-old newborn who was stolen from the Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital has been rescued by the police from Feni. A woman and her daughter have been arrested in this incident. The child was rescued from Parashuram in Feni on Tuesday night.
Santosh Chakma, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, held a press conference at Panchlaish Police Station in Chittagong City on Wednesday (December 20) and informed about the rescue of the newborn.
According to the police, Asmaul Hosna, a resident of the Adunagar area of Lohagara upazila, gave birth to a newborn in a private hospital in Chittagong city. After birth, the child was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital due to respiratory problems. Nachima Begum and Haru Akhter, the midwives of the neonatal ward at the hospital, left their sick newborn in the hospital bed on Tuesday afternoon, stole the newborn of the Asmaul and Noman couple, and ran away. The police started investigating the incident. The mother-daughter duo involved in the newborn theft were identified after examining the CCTV footage. Later, the police conducted a raid, rescued the child from Feni, and arrested the mother and daughter.
