Sukanth Bikash Dhar, Satkania: Satkania Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Milton Biswas said that trees are also related to people’s livelihoods. Human civilization has developed under the shade of trees. Human existence cannot be imagined without trees. Trees keep us alive by absorbing toxic carbon dioxide from the earth and giving us oxygen. Besides meeting the basic needs of people, planting trees is important for real needs, including dealing with natural disasters.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a function organized on the occasion of tree planting at Dhemsha Traditional High School in Satkania today (Wednesday) afternoon.

UNO’s Milton Biswas also said that in addition to fulfilling the basic needs of people, the importance of trees is immense in enhancing the beauty of nature, including combating natural disasters, preventing the adverse effects of climate change, and protecting the balance of nature. Due to the indiscriminate cutting of trees, we face various disasters, including temperature rise. According to the size of every country, 25 percent of the forest area is required, but our country does not have it. So if one big tree is cut, at least 10 trees should be planted. We must not forget that. Everyone should continue to practice it.

Principal Dayal Hari Majumder presided over the function held in the school auditorium. Upazila Secondary Education Officer Mohammad Salim Uddin was the special guest in the program under the direction of Rupan Sri Barua, assistant headmaster of the school.

Among others, school rector teacher Shashi Bhushan Bara, managing committee members Kajal Majumder, Mintu Sen, and Rajiv Palit, senior teacher Bodhi Ratan Barua, North Dhemsha Government Primary School head teacher Nazimul Islam Chowdhury, and 2024 SSC candidate Sidratul Muntaha spoke.

After the ceremony, UNO planted trees in the school yard and distributed various forest and fruit tree saplings among the students.
