Dhaka Bureau: Journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney’s murder case investigation report submission date has been postponed 104 times. The court fixed a new date of January 23 for submitting the investigation report.
The investigation report in the case was scheduled to be submitted on Tuesday, December 19. But the investigating agency in the case did not submit the RAB report. For this reason, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin fixed this date after the submission of the report.
Alamgir Hossain, sub-inspector of the general registration branch of the court of Sherebangla Nagar police station, gave this information.
On February 11, 2012, Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Machranga Television, and Mehrun Rooney, senior reporter of ATN Bengal, were killed. After that, Rooney’s brother, Nausher Alam Roman, filed a murder case at the Sherebangla Nagar police station in the capital.
Initially, the investigating officer of the case was a sub-inspector (SI) of the Sherebangla Nagar police station. After four days, the investigation of this sensational murder case was handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB). After more than two months of investigation, DB failed to solve the mystery. Later, on the order of the High Court, the investigation of the murder case was handed over to RAB on April 18 of the same year.
A total of eight people, including Rooney’s friend Tanvir Rahman, were arrested in this case. The other arrested accused are security personnel Enam Ahmed, alias Humayun Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Mintu, Kamrul Hasan Arun, Palash Rudra Pal, and Abu Saeed. Among them, Tanveer and Palash Rudra are on bail.
