Dinajpur Correspondent: Bri-Dhan 34 is spreading fragrance in farmers’ land in Kaharol Six Union of Dinajpur. Aman paddy has been planted in 15,250 hectares of land in the current season. Out of this, 34 varieties of Bri-Dhan have been cultivated on 8,500 hectares of land, according to the Upazila Agriculture Office.

According to Kaharol Upazila Agriculture Extension Department, if the weather is favorable, there is a possibility of a bumper yield of Bri-Dhan 34 paddy in the upazila.

On Tuesday, 34 green bri-paddy grains were seen in different fields of the upazila, including Mukundapur, Chakpranakrishna, Saranja, Mahdipur, Dahonda, Pahria, Ishanpur.

A number of farmers, including former UP member Mofiz Uddin of Ishanpur village of the upazila and Lutfar Rahman of Ishwargram, said that since the beginning of the season, they have been working in the fields with full of hope. At the last minute, they are spending busy time tending rice.

In this area threshing has started with the harvesting of Aman paddy, but it will take another 15 to 20 days to harvest Bri-paddy 34.

Meanwhile, there is a high chance of getting the currant bug (‘neck blast’ disease) in the field at the last moment, but it is reported that there is no insect attack at present.

Compared to last year, the use of pesticides to control rot and current insects in Bri-Dhan 34 cultivation in the current Amon season has reduced a lot. The fragrant rice here is exported to different parts of the country to satisfy the demand of 34 upazilas.

Bri-Dhan 34 aromatic varieties of rice have been cultivated in Kaharol this time.

Kaharol Upazila Agricultural Extension Department Agricultural Worker Abu Zafar. Sadek said, if the weather is favorable at the last minute and there is no major natural calamity, bumper yield of Bri-Dhan 34 paddy is expected.
