Entertainment Desk: Mostafa Saryar Farooqi’s popular movie ‘Shanibar Bickel’. The movie has been stuck in the Bangladesh Censor Board for three years. In the meantime, many people in the showbiz arena have demanded the release of the movie. Producer-director-artists will also take to social media about the issue. The maker gave a long status on Facebook about the movie.
Faruqi wrote, ‘I don’t want to hide anymore. I fear loneliness like death. For the last three years, I was very proud of my comrades, of Bangladesh. I don’t know how many nights I left the country in shame thinking that only I and my wife have to bear the injustice that was being done to me on Saturday afternoon. I don’t know how many nights I couldn’t sleep.
Thanking him for not sleeping at night, he also wrote, ‘I could not sleep even yesterday night. But not in pain, but in the joy of gratitude. No better medicine has been discovered for the human heart than gratitude. When I go to sleep at 3 o’clock Sydney time tomorrow night, Bachchu Bhai, Piplu Bhai, Amitabh, Julhajra might be calling our friends to include their names in the statement demanding release on Saturday afternoon. And I’m trying to sleep. But tears are rolling down the side of my eyes.
Today is a day to remember for the artists of our country. 130 artistes have given a statement demanding release on Saturday afternoon which may be seen in tomorrow’s newspaper. If you look at the list of names, you will understand why it carries a special meaning for us, for our next generation. There are people here who you won’t find in regular statements. There are people of all walks of life – mainstream – alternative – new – old. Our views may be different, our ways may be different, but we are united on the question of artist’s freedom. We are united in the question of our future. Now we know, when we are united, nothing can “hold us in check”!
