Nagar Reporter: The leaders have criticized Chittagong City Awami League general secretary and former mayor AJM Nashir Uddin for taking a stand in favor of an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. On Saturday, in the extended meeting of the metropolitan Awami League, there was a ruckus between the two parties.
In the meeting, Rotarian Elias, a member of the Executive Council of the Metropolitan Awami League, said that there are two candidates for the Awami League in the metropolis. Other leaders present protested this. They said that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s statement was misled in front of the leaders and activists due to personal interest and jealousy surrounding the election. The Prime Minister said, “I have given the boat to the one who I think is the most qualified.” You will work for him. But if one considers himself eligible, he can be an independent candidate. Can be an independent candidate and be an independent candidate—the two have different meanings. But this statement of the leader is being used by a circle for personal gain.
Recently, the speech of Chittagong-11 independent candidate Ziaul Haque Sumon in the community center of the city has spread on social media. He can be heard saying, ‘I will vote this time; I never imagined. I wasn’t ready. But Sujan bhai, Nashir bhai, and Altaf Hossain Bachchu bhai asked me to hold independent elections against the boat. Suman also said that he got the green signal from the high command.
In the extended meeting, the leaders demanded an explanation from Nashir Uddin about Suman’s statement and said that you (Nashir) yourself said in a media interview that you would not vote against the boat. Sujan Bhai also said the same thing. Instead of electing against the party, you now put a ward general secretary against the boat! They also want to know if there is any high command over Sheikh Hasina in the Awami League. There was a huge ruckus in the meeting between the two parties.
Several leaders present at the meeting said that Jalal Uddin Iqbal, Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, Shafi Adnan, etc., members of the editorial board of the Metropolitan Awami League, gave a strong stand in the meeting for the candidate of the boat. Nashir Uddin was seen to remain silent throughout the meeting.
