Writ order seeking suspension of schedule today

Dhaka Bureau: Order on the writ today on the question of the validity of the announced schedule of the 12th national parliament election. On Sunday, December 10, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md. Atabullah High Court bench will order in this regard.

On December 4, the hearing of the writ seeking postponement of the schedule of the 12th National Assembly elections ended. At the same time, December 10th was fixed for the order.

On that day, advocate Yunus Ali Akand heard the writ in court. Attorney General A. M. Amin Uddin heard for the state. He was assisted by Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy. Barrister Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz heard on behalf of the Election Commission.

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on November 29, challenging the validity of another parliament election while one parliament is in force. The Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, and seven other people were made defendants in the writ petition.

The lawyer sent the legal notice on November 28. Referring to the current political crisis, the notice said that a strike-blockade is going on in the country. Fair voting is not possible in this situation.

Besides the situation created in the country as a result of the hartal blockade, independent candidates are not ready to participate in the elections. In this situation, the Election Commission was compelled to postpone the date of the election and re-announce the schedule.
