Madrasa student missing after drowning in Karnaphuli

Rangamati Correspondent: A madrasa student named Tahsin (12) has gone missing after falling from a canoe in the Karnaphuli river of Kaptai upazila in Rangamati.

The incident took place in the coal depot area of Chandraghona Union of the Upazila around 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 9.

It has been reported that the missing madrasa student Tahsin is the son of Abul Hasem of the Jahtanapur area of Rangunia upazila. Tahsin was studying in the custody department of the Haqqani detention center in the Bagarchar area of Chitmaram Union in Kaptai.

The director of Bagarchar, Hefzkhana, confirmed the matter. Shahidul Islam said that the boy fell into the river near the KPM coal depot while crossing the Karnaphuli river in a small canoe to go home without informing anyone.

After receiving this news, I called 999 and informed the police.

Later, Kaptai Thana police reached the spot after receiving the information, and Kaptai Navy diver teams and Kaptai Fire Service personnel came to the spot and took part in the rescue work, he said.

Jasim Uddin, OC of Kaptai police station, said that the diving team of the police, navy, and fire service are working together to rescue the madrasa student.

Meanwhile, there was no trace of the missing student until 7 p.m.A 6-member diving team led by Lt. Rashed of Kaptai Navy Shaheed Moazzem Base and a diving team of Kaptai Fire Service are continuing the rescue operation.
