The Crime Desk: Ziaul Haque Sumon, Ward Councilor No. 39 of the City Corporation, earns one and a half crore rupees annually from agriculture. His wife’s income in this sector is Rs. 35 lakh. He submitted nomination papers as an independent candidate from Chittagong-11 (Patenga-Bandar) constituency in the 12th parliamentary elections. Suman gave this information in the affidavit submitted.

Ziaul Haque Sumon was elected as councilor in Ward No. 39 in the 2015 and 2020 city corporation elections. In the 2020 affidavit, he showed an income of Rs 6 lakh from agriculture sector fisheries and Rs 1 crore from cattle farms. Then his wife had no income in this sector. Before being elected as a councilor in 2015, Suman had no income from agriculture. After being elected as a public representative, he concentrated on agriculture.

The current Member of Parliament of the same constituency, MA Latif, has an annual income of Tk 19 lakh 15 thousand 847 from the agriculture sector. However, he did not give information about agricultural land on the immovable property. He had no income in this sector during the 9th, 10th, and 11th National Assembly elections held from 2008 to 2018. This time, he became the first farmer. However, in the affidavit of the 10th National Assembly election, he mentioned that he has land worth Tk 91 lakh 67 thousand 824 in his name. In other affidavits, MP Latif did not give information about agricultural land.

Not only Chittagong-11 Constituency Member of Parliament candidate Ziaul Haque Sumon and MA Latif, after getting involved with public representatives and politics, bought the agriculture sector as a source of income. Overnight, the farmer goes to the forest. After becoming a member of parliament, many people’s income increased in the agricultural sector. The area of agricultural land also increases. On inquiry, it is seen that many people have nominal farms even though they show income in the agricultural sector. This information is obtained by analyzing the affidavits submitted to the Election Commission in the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh National Parliament elections, including the Twelfth National Parliament elections.

Chittagong-9 (Baklia-Kotwali) Constituency Member of Parliament and Education Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel has shown income from the agriculture sector of 37 lakh, 75 thousand, and 450 Tk. He mentioned in the affidavit that he has agricultural land worth Tk 4 lakh. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from this constituency in the 11th National Parliament Elections held in 2018. The affidavit filed at that time did not show any income from agriculture. His income from shares, savings certificates, and bank deposits was Tk 37 lakh. From the legal profession, it was about 7 lakh taka. He showed an income of Tk 6 lakh, 42 thousand, and 661 from other sectors.

Chittagong-15 (Satkania-Lohagara) Constituency Member of Parliament Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi earns Tk 50,000 a year from agriculture. The affidavit mentions that there is agricultural land in ancestral sources but does not mention the amount of land. In the affidavit filed in the 10th and 11th National Assembly elections, Nadvir did not have income from agriculture.

Chittagong-7 (Rangunia) Constituency Member of Parliament and Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has shown an annual income of Tk 130,000 from the agricultural sector. Locals said that the family has a large farm in Rangunia. From 2008 to 2018, he did not have any income in this sector in his affidavit for three national elections. However, in the 10th and 11th National Parliament elections, he mentioned that even though there is no income in this sector, there is 310th-century agricultural land.

Chittagong-6 (Raujan) Member of Parliament ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury has shown an annual income of Tk 1 lakh, 25 thousand, and 125 from the agriculture sector. He has agricultural land worth Tk 15 lakh, 15 thousand, 340. 192.53 century agricultural land in the name of dependents. The price showed 5 lakh 49 thousand 683 taka. His income in this sector was Tk 25 thousand in the 11th National Parliament election held in 2018. MP Fazle Karim is said to have a large farm in Raujan. In recent years, he has placed great emphasis on agricultural production in the constituency. In the affidavit, he mentioned about 138 centuries of agricultural land in the three National Assembly elections held from 2008 to 2018.

Chittagong-13 Constituency Member of Parliament and Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed has shown an annual income of Tk 83 thousand from the agriculture sector. He mentioned that there are 3.73 acres of agricultural land worth 3 lakh 42 thousand 906 taka. He gave this information in the affidavit submitted for the 12th National Assembly elections. From 2008 to 2018, Minister Jabed had income in this sector in three elections. He has 3.73 acres of land. In 2018, the income in this sector was 72,560 taka. 46 thousand 281 taka in 2013 and 32 thousand 821 taka in 2008.
 
Chittagong-2 (Fatikchari) candidate Syed Saifuddin Ahmed has shown an annual income of Tk 1 lakh 73 thousand 200 from agriculture. He has agricultural land worth Tk 2 lakh 96 thousand. In the 2018 11th National Parliament election, his income in this sector was 1 lakh 52 thousand taka.
