Dhaka Bureau: Candidates whose nominations have been rejected by the Election Commission in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections are getting an opportunity to appeal on Wednesday (December 6) as the second day. The program started at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (December 6) at ten booths temporarily constructed in the Election Commission premises, which will continue till 4 p.m.
It can be seen on the ground that the candidates whose nomination papers have been canceled have been gathered in front of the EC building since this morning. However, for the sake of security, no more than two or three people can enter with the candidate. Security has been tightened at both entrance gates. The law enforcement officers are searching the bags and bodies of all those who want to enter. Public access to the EC building has also been restricted.
Earlier, on the first day, Tuesday (December 5), a total of 42 people applied. Earlier, the EC issued a notice regarding the filing, hearing, and disposal of appeals on the occasion of the 12th National Assembly elections on December 4. According to the EC, if any candidate, bank, or financial institution is aggrieved by the order of the returning officer against the cancellation and acceptance of nomination papers, an appeal must be filed within five days after the selection of nomination papers. That is, from December 5 to December 9, you can file an appeal in the form of a memorandum with the Election Commission. One set of original appeal documents and six sets of copies should be submitted.
According to the schedule announced by the EC, appeals against the decision of the returning officer are rejected by the Commission for filing and disposal of appeals from December 5 to December 15; the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The election campaign will continue till 8 a.m. on January 5. And the polls will be held on January 7.
