Nagar Reporter: A three-story building has collapsed on the hillside of the city. Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service, Abdur Razzak, said that the building collapsed in the Pahartali North Saraipara area around noon on Tuesday.
He told the media that the work of excavating the jewelry canal was going on next to the three-story building. The ground beneath the building shifted.
Six families are said to be living in the building. Although no cracks have been seen in the building yet, the residents of the building are acting in panic.
According to local residents and fire service sources, there was a distance of 6 inches between the three-story building and another building. Now that distance is no more.
Incidentally, a few days ago, a four-story building collapsed in a canal in Shahidnagar in the Bayezid Bostami area of the city. A canal running behind that building is being excavated as part of a drainage project under the Chittagong Development Authority (Chowk). However, the owner of that building in Shahidnagar was reported to have been warned earlier by the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Abdur Razzak said about the building that fell into the canal at Pahartali on Tuesday afternoon that they came to know that the canal was being dug under the city’s flood relief project.
He said that people are not being evacuated from the building now. A decision will be taken after seeing the engineers. Officials of related departments, including fire service and police, are said to be on the spot.
