Nagar Reporter: Three ships of Russia’s Pacific fleet arrived at Chittagong port. On Sunday, the Russian Embassy said three ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet had arrived in Bangladesh on a friendly visit. After at least 50 years, a Russian warship entered the port of Bangladesh.

The ships of the Russian fleet include the submarine destroyers Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleyev. The other vessel is ‘Pechenga’, which is an oil tanker.

Earlier, after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, some Russian warships came in a special operation to de-mine the Chittagong port.

The Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Mantinky, said that the Russian warships came to protect a newly independent country in 1971. After the war of independence, there were many mines in the waters of Chittagong Port. Many ships were sunk there. At that time, Bangladesh authorities sought help from many countries. A few countries agreed to help in return for huge sums of money. But Bangladesh was short on money at that time. Only the Soviet Union came forward with humanitarian aid then.

The Russian Honorary Consul in Chittagong, Ashiq Imran, said that the Russian ships have come to Bangladesh on a friendly visit. He said that the visit of Russian warships to Bangladesh is proof that the relationship between Bangladesh and Russia is at a very high level.
