Dhaka Bureau: State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman informed about the fear of another cyclone in December. The State Minister gave this information at a press conference on the general issues after Cyclone Sitrang at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 25).
The state minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called him last night and told him that Cyclone Sitrang has been dealt with well. He also thanked for this. But there is a danger of another similar cyclone coming next December. For this, the Prime Minister advised to take the same precautions.
In the press conference, the state minister said that 419 unions of the country have been affected by the impact of Cyclone Sitrang. Approximately 10,000 houses have been damaged in these unions. Apart from this, 6 thousand hectares of cropland has been destroyed and 1 thousand fisheries have been washed away.
The state minister said that due to Cyclone Sitrang, around 1 million people were brought safely to 6,925 shelters. However, as the situation improved, the sheltered people started going home at midnight yesterday. All shelters have been emptied by this morning.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has informed about the danger of another cyclone in December.
