Dhaka Bureau: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that if there is an attempt to cause violence under the guise of political gatherings, it will be suppressed with strict hands.
He said these things in response to questions from reporters at the Uttara metro rail station in the capital on Saturday (October 21). Earlier, he inspected the activities of MRT police engaged in the security of Metrorail. Habibur Rahman also went to Uttara Diabari station by metro rail. At that time, a senior official of the DMP was present with him.
When asked if there is any information about any untoward incident surrounding the grand rally of two political parties on October 28 and also about police preparations, the DMP Commissioner said Bangladesh is a democratic country. Everyone has the right to hold any peaceful political assembly, movement, or march meeting. The police provide security for these activities. But if someone tries to create a violent situation under the cover of this or if there is a threat to the lives and property of 200 million respectable citizens of Dhaka, any situation will be suppressed with a very strict hand.
Trying to spread rumors around October 28. Besides, when asked about the preparation of the DMP in this regard, he said that the leaders of the Khamasheen party are allegedly trying to make another curse. On October 28, a self-interested group is trying to spread various rumors through social media to mislead the people of the country. But I think the people of the country—the people of Dhaka—are aware. They will not listen to rumors; rather, they will cooperate in countering rumors. Also, our media will play a strong role in preventing rumors. We will dispel rumors, move forward in the right direction, and work to protect the lives and property of common people.
The DMP chief said the DMP police and other intelligence agencies are working on this matter. If any such information is received, action will be taken immediately. You know that in the years 2013–14, such attempts have been made all over the country, including Dhaka. But they were resisted by the people of the country and the police with strong hands. But the terrorists have been defeated.
