Kushtia Correspondent: The court has sentenced three people, including the District Jasad leader, to life imprisonment in the Kushtia murder case. Besides, in the verdict, each person has been fined 25,000 taka, and in default of payment, they have been imprisoned for another six months.
Judge Abir Parvez of the Kushtia District and Sessions Judge-Second Court announced the verdict in the presence of the accused. Those sentenced to life are Karshed Alam (48), publicity secretary of Kushtia district Jasdar, son of deceased Idris Ali of Paharpur village of Mirpur upazila, Abdur Rashid (58), and Shahidul Islam (59) of BilAmla village. The remaining eight accused in this case were acquitted as the charges were not proved.
According to court sources, Sahajul Islam (22), son of Alek Chand of Lakshmipur village in Daulatpur upazila, was beaten and stabbed at 7:30 p.m. on August 15, 2012, due to previous enmity. Later, the family rescued Sahajul, who was in critical condition, and admitted him to Kushtia General Hospital. From there, Sahajul was taken to Dhaka Medical. Seven days after the incident, Sahajul died while undergoing treatment there.
In this incident, the cousin of the victim became the plaintiff, and on August 22, 2012, she filed a case at the Daulatpur police station, naming 11 people, including Karshed, Abdur Rashid, and Shahidul.
After the investigation of the case, on March 25, 2013, the police gave the charge sheet to the court in the name of the 11 accused. Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Court PP Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi confirmed these facts.
