Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said regarding the security of the US ambassador Peter Haas posted in Dhaka, On the one hand, we will sanction our law and order forces, and on the other hand, we will ask for their security.

He was speaking at a press conference held at Ganabhaban, the Prime Minister’s official residence, to inform the media about the outcome of attending the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Friday (October 6).

The Prime Minister said that our ambassador in America is not given any security. On the other hand, 158 policemen have been deployed to the US Embassy in Bangladesh. Besides, there is a separate bodyguard for the US ambassador. There is no lack of security at the US embassy. After the Holy Artisan attack, the security of the ambassadors was increased with security in mind. But now there is no such difficulty, and we also need police, so extra security has been lifted.

He said we ourselves have some fault with the election. We need to hear about fair elections from those who stole the votes. Zia, Ershad, and Khaleda Zia are all vote-snappers. The voting rights of the people have been confirmed by the Awami League. The people of this country know that there has been progress in voting by boat. People have become self-reliant. Poverty has been eradicated.

Sheikh Hasina said that when the country is progressing economically, it demands free and fair elections. Then I have to say, I doubt it. Those who don’t get votes don’t have public support. Those who have crores of rupees are doing dharna in different places.

The head of government said that the United States suddenly raised questions about free and fair elections. When the country was under dictatorship, we struggled. The reform of the electoral system. Preparation of a voter list, ensuring people’s right to vote. The Awami League did it. I don’t have to teach. The development of the country has been possible because we have been in power continuously.

Earlier, during his stay in New York and Washington, DC, from September 17–29, the Prime Minister attended the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and other high-level and bilateral events, as well as the reception given to Bangladeshi expatriates in the United States. He also visited the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC. During the visit, the Prime Minister paid several courtesy calls and was welcomed by the Bangladeshi diaspora in the UK.
