The Rooppur project will contribute 2 percent to GDP

The Crime Desk: In the beginning of 2025, people will get electricity from the Rooppur nuclear power plant. Rooppur nuclear power plant will contribute 2 percent to the country’s GDP (gross domestic product) if commissioned.

Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman said these things at a press conference in the project area of Rooppur on Wednesday.

The minister said that only after the construction of transmission lines and other infrastructure will experimental power generation from the Rooppur nuclear power plant start. By the beginning of 2025, people will get electricity from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. This project has been going on relentlessly for seven long years. So far, the work on this project has not been stopped, not even for a day. Nowhere in the world has a project of this quality progressed so much in such a short period of time. This is possible due to the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Rooppur nuclear power plant will contribute 2 percent to GDP if commissioned.

The fuel uranium from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be officially handed over on Thursday. He said that Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the governing body of the International Atomic Energy Commission (IAEA). By the beginning of 2025, people will get electricity from Rooppur. The backward people of North Bengal will benefit from this scheme. The people of this area will come into the mainstream. Discussions are ongoing as to how the debt will be repaid to Russia. Safety is ensured at every step of the power plant. This is a new milestone for Bangladesh.

The minister said that the trial production will start only after the construction of transmission lines and other infrastructure.

Project Director Dr. Shaukat Akbar said that it was recognized as a nuclear facility after the nuclear energy project came to the area. Bangladesh is going to be the 33rd member of the nuclear club. In just six years and seven months, we have been able to give shape to the project.
