In nine months, 57 people were killed in public beatings, including 829 rape victims

Dhaka Bureau: 57 people have been killed in 90’mass beating’ incidents in the country in the last 9 months. Besides, 71 people were injured. At this time, 26 people were killed in the incident of 142 workers being tortured. At the same time, in 1959, women and girls were victims of child abuse. Among them, 829 people were raped.

This information has emerged in the Human Rights Support Society’s (HRSS) Human Rights Monitoring Report for the first nine months of 2023.

In a statement on Tuesday, the organization said that 218 journalists were killed, tortured, and harassed in 140 attacks in nine months, from January to September. In the last nine months, at least 121 journalists were injured, 77 were assaulted, 14 were threatened, and 5 were arrested.

During this period, alarmingly, 60 people were killed and at least 6743 were injured in 689 incidents of political violence. At this time, 7 people were killed and 12 were injured in the torture of 19 domestic workers. In addition, 19 Bangladeshis were killed, 18 injured, and 7 arrested in 39 attacks by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

In 1959, women and girls were victims of child abuse for nine months. Out of these, 829 people were raped, of whom an alarming 473 (57%) were children under 18 years of age. And 35 people, including 21 children, were killed after the rape. 593 women and children were victims of sexual violence, including 332 children. 56 women were killed in dowry torture, 53 were victims of physical torture, and six committed suicide. 238 women were killed, 85 injured, and 91 women committed suicide due to domestic violence. Eight women were victims of acid violence.
