Pabna representative: There has been a massive shooting incident between the two sides of the Chhatra League in Pabna city over the spread of dominance. At least eight people were shot. They have been admitted to the hospital. The incident took place in front of Pabna Bus Terminal Masum Bazar around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. The names of the injured were not immediately known.
According to eyewitnesses and police, recently in front of Pabna Women’s College, there was a clash between the former vice president of the District Chhatra League, Mehdi Hasan, and the former organizing secretary of the Municipal Chhatra League, Ifte Arafat Sifat. There was tension between the two sides over that incident. As the offices are side by side, the clash started between the two sides when the people of the Mehdi group passed in front of Sifat’s office around 10 p.m. Eight people were shot. Several people were injured. They were rescued and admitted to Pabna General Hospital. Most of the injured belonged to the Mehdi group.
Mehedi Hasan District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabujer and Ifte Arafat Sifat District Chhatra League General Secretary Mir Rafiul Islam are known as border followers.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, Kripa Sindhu Bala, confirmed the truth of the incident. He said that when Mehdi Hasan was going to the party office with his people, the Sifat group shot him. Eight people were shot. Additional police have been deployed there. Now the situation is under control.
In this regard, District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj said, ‘Sifat’s people attacked Mehdi’s people. There was already trouble between them. We repeatedly go and solve it, but after a few days, they get involved in trouble again.
However, Pabna Municipal Chhatra League’s former organizing secretary, Ifte Arafat Sifat, denied the attack earlier. He said, “I was standing in front of my office talking on my mobile phone. At this time, Mehdi attacked and shot me with 20–30 people. I was somehow saved by this.’
