Dhaka Bureau: In the future, the media will also be included in the visa policy, said Peter Haas, the US ambassador to Bangladesh. He said this in an interview given to private TV channel 24 on Sunday (September 24).
Earlier on Friday (September 22), the US State Department announced the imposition of visa restrictions on those involved in or obstructing the democratic election process in Bangladesh. The statement said that individuals and their family members who obstruct or engage in the democratic election process in Bangladesh will be ineligible for entry into the United States. Additional persons found to be responsible for or involved in undermining the democratic electoral process in Bangladesh may also be considered ineligible for visas under this policy in the future.
It also said the steps reflect the United States’ continued commitment to support Bangladesh’s goal of peacefully holding free and fair national elections and to support those seeking to advance democracy around the world.
