Own Correspondent: Former SP of Police Babul Akhtar has been sent to jail after remand in a case filed by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) chief Banaj Kumar Majumder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid’s court ordered to send him to jail on Friday.
On Saturday (November 12) morning, Dhanmondi Police Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam, General Registration Officer of Dhanmondi Police Station confirmed the matter.
It is known that after the one-day remand on Friday, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector (Operation) Rabiul Islam of Dhanmondi Model Police Station, presented him in court and requested to keep him in jail. Following the plea, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
On November 10, the court granted Babul Akhtar’s one-day remand.
It is to be noted that PBI Dhaka Metro North Superintendent of Police Jahangir Alam filed a complaint against 4 people at Dhanmondi police station on behalf of the plaintiff Banaj Kumar Majumdar on September 27 evening. The case has been charged under the Digital Security Act and the Special Powers Act.
The other 3 defendants in the case are Babul Akhter’s brother Md. Habibur Rahman Labu and father Md. Abdul Wadud Miah and journalist Elias Hossain.
