G-20 summit begins in New Delhi

News Desk: The G-20 summit has started from Saturday (09 September) in New Delhi, India with the participation of world leaders. The two-day conference is being held at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam Convention Center at Pragati Maidan in the capital, New Delhi. The leaders of the world’s largest international group ‘Group of Twenty’ are spending busy time in side meetings on the sidelines of the conference.

Modi will hold bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday morning.

The absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at this year’s conference is particularly noticeable.

Political analysts expect deep disagreements over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and how to help emerging nations deal with the climate crisis will block deals at the two-day meeting in New Delhi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a side meeting with the heads of state of 15 countries including American President Joe Biden, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the G-20 summit.

He had a meeting with Biden and Hasina on Friday. Biden-Modi meeting was held at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Earlier, a bilateral meeting was held with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

On the sidelines of the G-20 summit, he is also scheduled to meet Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Apart from this, there is also a meeting program with the leaders of United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Nigeria, Brazil.

Meanwhile, around the arrival of world leaders including Biden, the country’s capital, Delhi, has been covered in a security blanket. The outermost tier of the three-tiered security ring will consist of paramilitary forces, the second tier will consist of specially trained commandos and the innermost ring will include secret intelligence officers.

However, the heads of state will mainly stay in the hotels of Delhi. In addition to the G20 countries, the state leaders of the guest countries have also been accommodated in luxury hotels. The hotel will serve food to the heads of state in a special way, which will highlight the Indian heritage and glorious culture!

All Chief Ministers of India have also been invited to the dinner. Several opposition chief ministers have expressed their inability to attend the dinner. Among the four Congress Chief Ministers, only Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu could attend the dinner.

Despite being the president of the oldest and main opposition party, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was not invited to the President’s dinner. He is also the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha.
