Rangamati Correspondent: Heavy rains have been lashing Kaptai Lake and surrounding areas in Rangamati intermittently throughout the week. As a result, the water level of the Kaptai lake has increased due to the hill slopes coming down from upstream, and the production of the Kaptai water power plant has increased to 203 MW. Which is the highest production of hydropower plants in the current year.

Engineer ATM Abduzzaheh, manager of the water power plant, said that 203 megawatts of electricity have been produced from the five units of this power plant since 9:30 a.m. on Monday and are being supplied to the national grid. He also said that according to the rule curve (measurement of water), the water level in Kaptai Lake is expected to be 99.69 feet above mean sea level (MSL) until 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

But Kaptai Lake currently has a water level of 105.88 feet MSL. The water holding capacity of Kaptai Lake is 109 feet MSL. If the amount of water in Kaptai Lake increases, there is a possibility of increasing power generation. It should be noted that the maximum power generation of 230 megawatts is possible from the five units of the Kaptai Karnaphuli hydropower plant.
