Dhaka Bureau: The 9th Bangladesh-US Security Dialogue will be held in Dhaka tomorrow, Tuesday. The US delegation to the dialogue will be led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mira Reznik of the US State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. It is said that he will arrive in Dhaka on Monday. A press release from the US Embassy in Dhaka yesterday said that the Security Dialogue is an annual civilian event where all aspects of security relations between the two countries are discussed.
Representatives from both sides will discuss Indo-Pacific regional issues, security and human rights, military cooperation, peacekeeping, security assistance, and counter-terrorism. The dialogue is part of the comprehensive security relationship between the two governments. The circular also said that the US-Bangladesh security partnership is very strong and that the interests of the two countries are common in the Indo-Pacific region. The two countries also have the same vision to keep the Indo-Pacific region free, unfettered, peaceful, and secure.
Various dialogues are organized throughout the year to achieve these mutual goals. This year’s Security Dialogue is going to be held very close to the Bilateral Defense Dialogue held in Dhaka (August 23–24). The bilateral defense dialogue was attended by senior military officials and civilians from the United States and Bangladesh.
They discussed various issues specific to military relations, such as upcoming military exercises, including military training, peacekeeping, and next year’s disaster response exercises and exchanges. Incidentally, Mira Reznick is responsible for over $40 billion in annual defense equipment sales. Apart from this, he also supervises the security support office of the bureau. Mira Reznik also oversees security cooperation worth $6.5 billion a year.
