Dhaka Bureau: The temporary workers of the railway have blocked the railway line in Malibagh, the capital, to demand permanent employment. As a result of this, rail communication with Dhaka is closed across the country. The temporary railway workers started the blockade at 10 a.m. on Sunday (September 3).
After that, rail communication between the capital and the whole country was stopped. The workers have also warned that they will not leave the railroad until their demands are met. On the surface, it can be seen that the Rangpur Express leaving Dhaka and the Dhaka-bound Tangail commuter train are stuck at Malibagh.
The workers are claiming that they have been working temporarily for 10–12 years in various positions, including gateman and Khalasi. But now the railroads have sacked people through outsourcing. They are demanding that we employ them without permanent jobs or outsourcing practices.
Meanwhile, Railway Minister Nurul Islam said in this regard that we employ some workers on a contractual basis due to the shortage of workers. Its contract has expired. This time we want to hire staff through testing and outsourcing. I told them to sit the exam; they will be specially valued for their experience. However, the workers have been demanding for a long time that the practice of full recruitment and outsourcing be abandoned.
