The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating all these assets.
Before this, on December 28, 2022, against this official, “In the hands of a servant of Chittagong ‘Aladdin’s Cherag’ City Corporation, more than half a hundred crores of wealth in 16 years” – under the title Md. A report against Jasim Uddin was published in a Chittagong newspaper. On August 27, Executive Engineer Md. ACC has started investigation against Jasim Uddin.
Chittagong City Corporation Executive Engineer Md. ACC has requested to provide relevant records and documents for the purpose of proper investigation of the complaint against Jasim Uddin. The Chittagong City Corporation is requested to take necessary measures to supply all the records against him to the ACC within the next seven working days.
In the ACC’s letter to the City Corporation, Chittagong City Corporation’s Executive Engineer Md. Jaseem Uddin is asked to furnish the statement of assets filed by the Chittagong City Corporation along with salary, bonus and bills payable year wise from the date of joining service till 2023. Besides, to provide the records of all the work orders given by the Chittagong City Corporation to Saiful Islam, the owner of his contractor company ‘Fahim Construction’ and also to provide the records of the payments made by the Chittagong City Corporation to Didarul Islam, the owner of ‘Amin Infrastructure Asphalt Plant’. It has been said.
According to the sources, in 2006, Md. was temporarily appointed as a road inspector in the city corporation with a salary of 8 thousand taka. Jasim Uddin Then in 2009, he took the post of executive engineer, leaving behind 11 senior officers of the department. He is currently serving as an executive engineer.
Besides, he has built a contracting business with his family members and brother. From behind, the brothers and family members have taken advantage of many jobs of the city corporation. Even though City Corporation has its own asphalt plant, the material was bought from Jasim Uddin’s own factory.
According to the sources, he has at least 4 flats in a building named ‘IS Vacation’ in Al-Falah Street of Nasirabad area of the city. The price of each flat is above Rs. A multi-storied building of 10 floors is under construction on 12 khata area in Khulshi area of the city. The market value of which is about 20 crore rupees. He also has several expensive private cars.
Apart from this, Shah Amanat resident of Hamzar Bagh Hamzar Khan Lane of Panchlaish of the city owns two plots of 4 khata and 8 khata in the name of his wife and sister-in-law. An 8-storey multi-storey building is coming up on a plot there. Another has semi-finished houses.
According to locals, the current market value of the under-construction building and land is around Tk 15 crore. About 28 buildings of this residence are led by Jasim.
It is also known that along with the job, he is doing contract work for the City Corporation by concealing the information and giving it to his younger brother Saiful Islam. Jasim Uddin The name of his brother’s contracting company is ‘Fahim Construction’.
At the same time, Jasim Uddin has a factory called ‘Amin Infrastructure Asphalt Plant’ on Sagarika Road in the city. Which is managed by his other brother Didarul Islam. However, the owner of that factory is shown in the papers as a person named Nurul Amin.
According to the Act, under the Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009, it is unlawful for any officer-employee of the Corporation to own or participate in any contract of the Corporation, either directly or indirectly, by himself or through any partner.
Chief Executive Officer of Chittagong City Corporation Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam confirmed the ACC investigation.
He said, “We have started working after receiving the letter from ACC. A report is scheduled to be submitted against Executive Engineer Jasim Uddin within the next 7 working days. I hope that I will send the correct information of all the requested information to the Anti-Corruption Commission in due course.
