City Reporter: A university student named Afnan Nashir Varsha (21) died of dengue in Chittagong. She died on Wednesday (August 30) around 8 p.m. while undergoing treatment at Agrabad Mother and Child Hospital in Chittagong. A younger brother, Adnan (16), is undergoing treatment for mosquito-borne disease in the same hospital.
The deceased Barsha is the daughter of Nashir Uddin of Binanihara village in Patia upazila of Chittagong. She was a third-semester student in the English literature department of Chittagong International Islamic University. Barsha’s father, Nashir Uddin, said that when her daughter was infected with dengue last week, she was admitted to the Chittagong Mother and Child Hospital.
After a week of treatment, there was no improvement in the girl. Barsha died in the ICU of Mother and Child Hospital on Wednesday night. Nashir Uddin complained that the doctors treated the girl only based on blood platelets. But even though the girl’s kidneys and lungs were affected, the doctors did not detect it earlier, and when they found out, they did not inform the family about it.
Besides, Barsha’s younger brother is also under treatment in the same hospital due to dengue. The Chittagong Civil Surgeon’s Office has confirmed the death of a university student who contracted dengue at the Mother and Child Hospital.
