Dhaka Bureau: A security deposit of Tk 20,000 will be required to become a female MP candidate. Earlier, it was 10 thousand rupees. On Monday (August 28), the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided to increase the security deposit with the approval in principle of the Jatiya Sangsad (Reserved Women’s Seat) Election (Amendment) Act.
Cabinet Secretary in the Secretariat Mahbub Hossain said, as a result of the new law, not only the bail money but some other amendments have been made. By-elections will be held within 90 days in the reserved seats. At present, there is provision for by-elections within 45 days.
