Dhaka Bureau: Deputy Director of BTRC Sanjib Kumar Singh has been arrested by Dhanmondi police station on charges of rape, cheating, and torture for secretly recording a video after establishing a relationship with a woman in secret. The police said that videos and pictures of intimate moments were recovered from Sanjib’s mobile phone.
On Sunday (August 27), Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parvez Islam confirmed this information. He said that a woman filed a case against Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Deputy Director Sanjib Kumar Singh under the Women and Child Torture Suppression Act at Dhanmondi police station last Friday. Sanjib was arrested that day.
He was sent to the court on Saturday, and a remand application was made. The court allowed him to be interrogated for one day at the jail gate. It is mentioned in the complaint that the woman met Sanjib in 2013. Then Sanjib hid his identity. Later, she developed a love relationship with him. But after knowing Sanjib’s real identity, he did not want to take the relationship any further. But Sanjib promises her marriage. In 2014, Sanjeev took her to a house, raped her, and recorded the video.
He raped her for six to seven years, threatening to spread the video. Sanjib recorded the video of these incidents. He also cheats by sending them to the mobile phones of family members. In her statement, the victim woman said that on August 15, Sanjib again called her to her Dhanmondi residence and raped her, threatening to kill her. At that time, he was physically tortured and detained at home. Later, a friend of Sanjeeb went to see his condition and wanted to know what had happened. After explaining the details, Sanjib’s friend took him home.
