Netrakona representative: For the past four days, gas has been emitting from the pipe of the tube well of the house where Nekbar Ali lived. Housewife Sabikun Nahar is cooking with that gas. As this news spread, eager people gathered at Nekbar Ali’s house in Ghanicha village of Kailati union of Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona. Local residents and Nekbar Ali’s family members said that after coming to the area from Dhaka four years ago, Nekbar Ali bought 0.26 percent of the land, dug a small pond, and built a house on that land.
Since then, he has been living there with his family. About two years ago, a shallow tubewell was installed on the south side of the house. After two months, water does not rise well in that tube. At one point, the tube well became completely useless. Another shallow tubewell was installed about northeast of the house this year. Recently, water stopped coming from that tube well.
Then an attempt was made to repair it. Five days ago, when the top head of the tube well was opened for repair, a loud noise was heard. After lighting the fire and checking it, the presence of gas can be noticed. Since then, the family has been cooking with the gas released from the tube well. Meanwhile, gas is coming out in the form of bubbles from the tube well installed two years ago on the south side of the house, the family members said. Saikul Islam, the elder son of Nekbar Ali, said that after confirming the presence of gas, we would arrange cooking there. My wife has been cooking there for the past four days.
