Dhaka Bureau: The government has canceled the Digital Security Act 2018. It is said to be amended and replaced by the Cyber Security Act 2023. This decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting on Monday (August 7).
It is said to be replaced by the “Cyber Security Act-2023”. Human rights activists have been demanding the repeal of the Digital Security Act for a long time in order to uphold the freedom of the media, the right to freedom of thought and expression, and above all to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of people. Earlier, Law Minister Anisul Haque said last Wednesday that the Digital Security Act-2018 will not be repealed or changed.
But the process to amend the law to prevent misuse is underway, which will be completed by next September.
