Sukant Bikash Dhar, Satkania: Due to the lack of a bridge in Hazarikhil area on the South Kanchana Buraichhari Canal in Kanchana Union of Satkania Upazila, the locals and other people traveling through that channel are suffering. This canal has to be crossed constantly with dangerous bamboo poles. Even though the local people have been demanding the construction of a bridge at that place since before the independence of the country, the people concerned including the local representatives have not been seen to be active in the construction of the bridge.
According to local sources, the Buraichari canal flows through the middle of the old Rampur-DC road. Thousands of people and farmers of 6 and 8 ward of Kanchana Union located in South Kanchana Hazarikhil area travel with risk every day through this road. Apart from this, Kanchana Anwarul Uloom Islamia Senior Madrasah, Darul Ehsan Dakhil Madrasah, NI Chowdhury Government Primary School and High School, Shah Rashidiya Islamia Dakhil Madrasah, Kanchana Government Primary School, Kanchana Girls High School and Kanchana AKBC Ghosh Institute Thousands of its students have to travel on that bridge with risk. People are moving safely despite knowing the extreme risk.
On site inspection, it is seen that school-madrasa students, general public and agricultural products are traveling. The belt is now so wobbly in movement that major accidents can happen at any time.
Talked there with several people including local Badiul Alam, Nurul Alam and Chagir Ahmad. They told Samakal that during the Pakistan era, a bridge was built on brick pillars with iron foundations. The bridge did not last long due to flood water. Since then, a bridge made of bamboo to cross the canal was financed by the local people. Whenever the road is broken due to water, the local people repair it and make it suitable for movement. This is how the day goes.
They also said that the Rampur-DC road through Hazarikhil passes through Kanchana Manufkirhat, Madarshar Deodighi, Makkabari and joins the neighboring Lohagara upazila at Chunti. Currently this road is known as Rampur-DC road but it was known as Jai Mangal Road in Khatian. If a bridge is built at the site of this Sankoti, along with the development of yoga system, lakhs of farmers of Satkania and Lohagara would have benefited, the suffering would be less for the people traveling on that road including students.
In this regard, Kanchana Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Ramzan Ali said that thousands of people are suffering every day due to the lack of a bridge. If this bridge was built, the two upazilas of Satkania and Lohagara would have been connected in other fields including agriculture. Many times of dharana to the concerned people including the local MP for the construction of the bridge did not get any result.
In this regard, Satkania Upazila Engineer Parvez Sarwar Hossain said that a proposal has been made for inclusion in the DPT of the Chittagong Infrastructure Development Project for the construction of a bridge over Buraichhari Canal in Hazarikhil area.
