Sunamganj Correspondent: In the second round, the water is not decreasing, but the water of the Surma, Kushiara, Jadukata and Boulai rivers of Sunamganj, a Bhati township known as the Howrah area, is rising again due to the hill slopes coming down from the upstream. Meanwhile, the water of Surma River is flowing just 4 cm below the danger level.
Howrah residents are again in fear of the terrible flood of June 16 last year. In the last 24 hours, the Sunamganj-Tahirpur road of Dhale district, which came down from the upstream of India, has cut off the communication of Tahirpur upazila with the district headquarters. There is no vehicular movement, only boats are relied upon now. Millions of people of Tahirpur, Biswambharpur and neighboring Madhya Dharmapasha upazilas have suffered due to this.
Nayan Mia of Dharmapasha upazila who is suffering said, we are suffering a lot due to sinking of the road. Traffic is not able to move through the road. Now the boat is the only hope. Mujahidul Islam Shiplu of Tahirpur upazila said that they have to go to the district headquarter by treading water by road. This makes it very difficult to walk against the current.
Water Development Board (PUBO) Sunamganj Executive Engineer Mamun Hawladar said that due to the continuous downpour, the water of Surma River in Sunamganj has increased by 38 cm at Sholghar point in the municipal city and is flowing below the danger level by 4 cm in the last 24 hours. However, there is no flood threat in this district yet.
