Two ACC officers withdrawn on corruption charges

Dhaka Bureau: Two officials of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have been recalled on charges of bribery and corruption. On Wednesday, two officers from Jessore and Kurigram offices were withdrawn and transferred to the ACC head office. ACC Director (Administration and Human Resources Department) Md. This information is known from an order signed by Moniruzzaman Bakaul. The accused officers are Assistant Director (AD) of Jessore Integrated District Office.

Mostafizur Rahman and Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Sudip Kumar Chowdhury of Kurigram Integrated District Office. They have been directed to vacate their workplace by July 13 in the transfer order. According to ACC sources, a departmental investigation is underway against these two officials after the allegations of accepting bribe. Mostafizur Rahman, the assistant director of the Pabna district office of the ACC, was accused of accepting bribes recently.

A video of alleged bribe-taking went viral on social media. Allegedly against him, he was given the responsibility of investigation against bank officials along with a businessman for allegedly embezzling four crore taka in the name of loan from a private bank. The businessman demanded a bribe of Tk 20 lakh from Shamsul Haque by assuring that he would be freed from the charges. This officer accepted 76 thousand taka in several stages. After this incident, Mostafizur Rahman was transferred from Pabna to ACC’s Jessore district office.

On the other hand, a complaint was filed against Sudip Kumar Chowdhury, Deputy Assistant Director of the Bogra District Office of the ACC by threatening a police officer with a case. In a press conference on April 9, Rumaiya Shirin, the sister of the police officer, claimed that her brother Alamgir Hossain was working as a Deputy Inspector (SI) in the Bogra District Police.

Alamgir was asked to file a statement of assets through a notice. He then filed the statement of assets. Sudip Kumar Chowdhury was given the responsibility of verifying the asset statement. After that, he demanded a bribe of seven lakh taka by threatening the case. He was not satisfied with the bribe of Tk 5 lakh and 80 thousand but filed a case.
