Bangladesh will work with the United Nations on human rights

Dhaka Bureau: Law Minister Anisul Haque has pledged to work in conjunction with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the promotion and protection of human rights. At this time, he reiterated the strong commitment of the current government to protect and uphold human rights.

The Law Minister of Bangladesh expressed this commitment in a meeting held on Tuesday with the newly appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Tark.

The Ministry of Law informed this information in a press release on Wednesday (November 9).

In the meeting, the Law Minister called for a stronger and more effective role of the United Nations in making efforts to repatriate the Rohingyas a success. The Law Minister also informed the High Commissioner to work closely with his office on the Digital Security Act. At this time, High Commissioner Volker Tark praised the humanitarian generosity of the Bangladesh government for providing shelter to the Rohingyas.

At the beginning of the meeting, Law Minister Anisul Haque congratulated the newly appointed High Commissioner for Human Rights.

It should be noted that on October 17, Volker Tark assumed responsibility as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. In the meeting, the permanent representative and ambassador of Bangladesh appointed to the UN office in Geneva. Sufiur Rahman was present.

During his visit to Geneva, the Law Minister also met the newly appointed Director General of the International Labor Organization, Gilbert F. Hongbo, on Tuesday. At this time, he informed the Director General about the various steps taken by the Bangladesh government to protect labor rights. Minister of State for Labor and Employment Mannujan Sufian was also present in this meeting.
