Own Correspondent: A woman named Hasina Begum (50) has died in a fire in Chittagong. Apart from this, about 60 residential houses and a part of a school were burned. The incident took place in Nazrul Colony, Chandgaon police station area of the city, on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, a rickshaw puller named Zaheed Ali (38) died after being burned by an electricity cable at Oxygen Junction in the city.
Hasina Begum is the wife of Zakir Hossain of Nazrul Colony. Zaheed Ali’s house is in Palashi Union of Aditmari Upazila of Lalmonirhat. He lived in the Oxygen Tannery Battal area of Chittagong city.
Faisal Bappi, a resident of Nazrul Colony, said Hasina Begum was bedridden for a long time due to paralysis. After the fire broke out around 8:30 a.m., other family members managed to get out, but he was trapped. Later, he burned to death inside the house. Chittagong-8 Constituency Member of Parliament Noman Al Mahmud visited the fire-affected area in the afternoon. At this time, he promised to help the victims.
Abdul Halim, deputy director of fire service, said that three units of fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control at 11:30 a.m. After this, Hasina Begum was rescued from a burned house in the colony. When he was taken to the Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) hospital, doctors declared him dead. Md. while putting out the fire. A fireman named Ibrahim was injured. He was admitted to CMC Hospital. The fire is initially believed to have started at some stage of cooking when the stove was ignited with gas supplied from a cylinder.
Chandgaon Police Station OC Khairul Islam said that 60 tin shed houses in Nazrul Colony were burned in the fire. Along with this, some furniture from the adjacent Meron Sun School and College was burned.
Meanwhile, Zaheed Ali was driving a rickshaw towards Oxygen Junction around 11 a.m. At that time, the electric wire above the road broke and fell on him.

Kamruzzaman said that a fire service team went to Oxygen Junction after getting information from a passerby that the rickshaw driver was on fire after the electricity cable was torn. He was quickly rescued and admitted to Chamek Hospital’s burn unit. Most of his body was burned in the fire.
Chamek Hospital police outpost in-charge Nurul Alam Ashek said that the rickshaw driver died at 4:30 p.m. while undergoing treatment.
