There is a risk of landslides due to the impact of Cyclone Mokha

The Crime Desk: Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in Chittagong, Sylhet, and Barisal divisions under the influence of Cyclone ‘Mokha,” created in the Bay of Bengal. Due to heavy rainfall, there is a possibility of landslides in the hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Chittagong. This information has been included in the special notification number 14 given by the Meteorological Department at 10 a.m. on Saturday (May 13).

It is said in the notification that the rampage of ‘Mokha’ may start on Saturday night in the coastal areas of Chittagong and Barisal divisions. Heavy (44 to 88 mm) to very heavy (289 mm) rain may occur in Chittagong, Sylhet, and Barisal divisions. Landslides may occur in hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Chittagong due to heavy rain.

The notification also informed us that the extremely strong cyclone ‘Mokha’, located in the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, is moving in the north-northeast direction and is staying in the same area. The cyclone was 815 km away from Chittagong Sea Port at 6 a.m. this Saturday. 745 km from Cox’s Bazar seaport in the south-west. 785 km from the seaport of Mongla in the south-southwest. South and 745 km from Payra seaport. It was located in the south. It may move further north-northeastward, intensify, and cross Cox’s Bazar’s northern Myanmar coast between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday (May 14). The impact of the front of the super cyclone may begin in the coastal areas of Chittagong and Barisal divisions tonight.

In this situation, Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong seaports have been asked to show distress signal number 8. Payra and Mongla seaports have been asked to display local warning signal number 4. The coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Bhola, and their nearby islands and chars will be under an 8-distress signal.
