Preparations in Chakaria to avoid the risk of Cyclone Moka

Mizbaul Haque, Chakria: All preparations have been made in Chakria of Cox’s Bazar to avoid the risk of Cyclone Moka. Hundreds of shelters and Mujib Fort have been prepared to protect against cyclone damage. People have not yet arrived at the shelters. However, the upazila administration requested people to take shelter in shelters as soon as possible. A control room has been opened by the administration for round-the-clock monitoring. Cox’s Bazar district administration has already allocated dry food, biscuits and water purification tablets.

Chakaria upazila administration sources have informed that, in order to increase the awareness among common people in 18 unions and one municipality of Chakaria upazila, they are continuing a massive campaign to deal with the cyclone ‘Moka’ created in the Bay of Bengal. In the meantime, the upazila administration has taken all kinds of preparations to avoid the possible damage of cyclone Moka. Micking is going on in the coastal unions so as not to panic. 1400 volunteers have been brought to the field by the Red Crescent Society (CPP) of Chakaria Upazila. Besides this, Ansar members will also be in the field.

CPP members are campaigning in sub-district areas so that common people do not panic. Cyclone Moker is broadcasting Signal No. 4. At least 96 shelters and three Mujib Forts have been prepared in Chakaria upazila.

Chakaria Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Rahat Ujj Mann visited these shelters on Friday afternoon. People have been requested to take shelter in these shelters in time of calamity. Meanwhile, a control room has been opened for round-the-clock monitoring of Cyclone Moka.

Chakaria Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abul Hasnat Sarkar said that on Friday afternoon, the Cox’s Bazar district administration allocated Tk 2 lakh, about 500 cut biscuits and water purification tablets. Dry food and essential items will be delivered to the shelters and affected areas only when Cyclone Moka hits.

Chakaria Upazila Parishad Chairman Fazlul Karim Saidi said that the administration has made maximum preparations to deal with the cyclone. 98 shelters and Mujib Forts have been opened. Also about 1500 volunteers are in the field. Dry food and water purification tablets are kept ready. He said that a total of 70 divisions of law and order forces will work in the affected township.

He also said that 18 medical teams consisting of doctors and nurses have been formed to ensure medical care. They will perform duty in Durgat area. Besides, two ambulances of the government hospital and two police vehicles will be engaged in the transportation work at the time of emergency.
