Artist Sheela Momen received the Rabindra Award

Entertainment Desk: The myth of zamindaran around Rabindranath is prevalent in our society. But Rabindranath Agagora was a self-made man. He came to different districts of East Bengal through family business. Just as he has tried to improve the standard of living of the common people of these regions, the common people of East Bengal have given a new direction to his literature.

Prof. Syed Akram Hossain, a prominent Rabindra researcher, said these things in a solo speech on the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore, the presentation of the Rabindra Award 2023, and as a solo speaker at the cultural program at the Abdul Karim Sahithabisharad Auditorium of the Academy on Monday (May 8).

Director General of the Bangla Academy, Kavi Muhammad Nurul Huda, gave a welcome speech at the event presided over by Bangla Academy president and fiction writer Selina Hossain. Prominent Rabindra researcher Professor Syed Akram Hossain gave a single lecture.

On the occasion, eminent Rabindra musician Sheela Momen was awarded the Rabindra Award 2023, instituted by the Bangla Academy, in recognition of her overall contribution to Rabindra research. Bangla Academy president fiction writer Selina Hossain and director general poet Muhammad Nurul Huda handed over wreaths, certificates, mementos, and a check worth Tk 2,00,000 (two lakhs) to the award-winning writer.

Rabindranath Tagore’s poems were recited by Mahidul Islam and Saira Habib in the first part of the program. Artists Bulbul Islam and Kamalika Chakraborty performed Rabindra Sangeet.

Muhammad Nurul Huda said, Rabindranath is our beacon of peace, prosperity, and well-being. We get from Rabindranath’s literature and life the necessary motivation to move forward and grow with him.

Fiction writer Selina Hossain said, Rabindranath pervades our personal and national lives.” His thoughts and humanitarian ideals smooth our way, holding hands in the fountain of light.

Expressing the feeling of receiving the Rabindra Award, Sheila Momen said that receiving the Rabindra Award of the Bangla Academy is a unique achievement of a lifetime. Keeping Rabindranath in search of him, as if there is no end to this search, there is endless awareness in the bliss.

Bangla Academy Deputy Director Kazi Rumana Ahmed Soma presided over the program.
