Dhaka Bureau: There are about 200 billion cubic feet of gas stored in the new gas field well named Ilisha-1 in Ilisha Union of Bhola Sadar Upazila. This has been confirmed by Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex).
Alamgir Hossain, general manager of the geological department of BAPEX, said that the second DST (Drill Stem Test) test was started early on Sunday and the matter has been confirmed.
He also said that after drilling the Ilisha-1 well, they saw the potential for a huge amount of gas on three levels. On April 28, they started the first DST test in that well and ignited the fire. The first exam ended on May 5.
The second-level DST exam started today, Sunday. They have confirmed that there is a large amount of gas stored here, said Alamgir Hossain.
The Director General of BAPEX said that it is estimated that there are about 200 billion cubic feet (BCF) or more of gas reserves here. But it can be confirmed after the entire exam. He also said that it will be possible to extract 20–22 million cubic feet of gas daily from here.
Incidentally, on March 9, BAPEX started drilling the new well named Elisha-1.
