The loan of Jahangir Alam is the guarantor of the institution which has not yet been rescheduled. At that time, it was informed by the EC that Jahangir Alam was in default at the time of submitting the nomination. So he defaulted even if he deposited the money later.
Hearing the statements of both sides, the appeal authority Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. canceled the nomination of mayoral candidate Jahangir Alam due to his loan default and upheld the order given by the returning officer. Sabirul Islam.
It is to be noted that in 2018 Gazipur city election, Jahangir Alam was elected as the mayor on boat ticket. He was expelled from Awami League two years ago due to controversial comments. After that he also lost the post of mayor. However, Awami League took Jahangir back to the party on January 1. This time he bought nomination papers as an independent candidate without getting party nomination.
