Sylhet Correspondent: Due to the stabbing incident of BNP leader in Sylhet city, there was a fight between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra League at 12:15 on Sunday night. Shops and cars were vandalized. A motorcycle was also set on fire. The incident took place on the road between Aliya Madrasa and Stadium Madhyakhan in the city.
It is known that BNP leader AFM Kamal was stabbed to death by miscreants in Ambarkhana Bara Bazar area of the metropolis on Sunday around 9 pm. He was the former health affairs secretary of Sylhet district BNP and former publicity secretary of Sylhet district Chhatra Dal. The leaders and activists of Mahanagar Chhatra Dal took out a protest march from Chowhatta around 11:30 pm to protest the killing of this BNP leader. They had sticks in their hands. They marched from Chowhatta towards Rikabibazar point. At that time the leaders and activists of Chhatra League chased them. There were several chases and chases between the two sides. During this time shutters of some shops and a private car were vandalized. After receiving the information, a group of policemen from Kotwali police station reached the spot and tried to calm the situation by chasing both sides.
Leaders of Jubo League, Chhatra League said that the Chhatra Dal has torn down their banner festoons that were drawn in the city on the occasion of the ongoing delegation conference of Awami League. So they took to the streets to resist.
Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ali Mahmud said – after receiving information about the tension, the police went to the spot and calmed down the situation. Police have been deployed there to prevent untoward incident.
