Harun Al Rasheed, Brahmanbaria Representative: The business of selling soil and sand by excavating the soil of “Dhamshar Dighi” of Kasba Upazila No. 5 Bina OT Union of Brahmanbaria District has been booming. It has also been alleged that the police administration is directly involved in this business.
The land grabbers have been using two bulldozers for two months to excavate government properties and Hindu shrines in Gabbari village and Nematabad village and sell soil and sand illegally, showing thumbs up to the law.
Local residents told The Crime that chairman and member of the Union Parishad, Mojibur Rahman, Rangumia, Rahiz Mia, former member Motaleb and some other new land grabbers have conducted a huge campaign to sell soil and sand. They have already made a huge amount of money by selling 25 lakh cubic feet of sand.
Locals also said that Hindu cremation grounds were not spared from land grabbers in the name of development. People’s representatives and upazila administration are silent. Those who have private land in that area are also helpless to these land robbers. This is like the tip of a mug.
Aggrieved landowners told The Crime that the landowners have not received any response despite protesting to the concerned UP chairman for the rent dues. Finally, the victims have to go to this office today, to that office tomorrow, hoping for a fair trial by the land owners. Finally, when the land owners filed a case in the ADM Court hoping for redress, Section 145 and Section 144 were issued against the mentioned land grabbers. But the concerned police administration did not budge. Ulto is also indirectly threatening the land owners to not bother to dig the soil and sell the sand.
