Zafrullah Chowdhury’s dead body in Shahid Minar

Dhaka Bureau: the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and heroic freedom fighter Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury’s dead body. People from different classes and professions, including politicians, doctors, journalists, and intellectuals, are already flocking to pay their respects.

Thursday (April 13), after 10 o’clock in the freezing van, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury’s body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar. His body will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar until 1 p.m. for public homage. He will be given a state guard of honor there.

On Wednesday (April 12), Gonoshasthaya Kendra Chairman Altafun Nescha Maya said that Zafrullah Chowdhury’s first funeral will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

He also said that on April 14 (Friday) at 10 a.m. on Savar’s public university campus, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury’s body will be kept. A second funeral will be held there after Friday prayers.

On Tuesday (April 11), around 11 o’clock at night, Dr. Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital breathed his last under treatment. Zafrullah This 81-year-old freedom fighter had been suffering from kidney problems for a long time, as well as various complications related to old age.

In 1971, Dr. King served the wounded freedom fighters by building a hospital in the Great War of Liberation. Zafrullah saved many lives. After the war of liberation, he did various works in medical research, health systems, and health management. He also played a major role in formulating the National Medicines Policy and the National Health Policy. He also arranged for affordable treatment through Gonoshasthaya Kendra and Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.

Although not directly associated with any political party, Dr. was active in various political processes throughout his life. Zafrullah He has given solidarity and supported various mass-oriented movements and struggles. He was awarded the Freedom Award in 1977 for his contribution to national life.

Zafrullah Chowdhury has received national and international awards or honors in various phases of his life in recognition of his work. In 1977, the government gave him a freedom award. Ramon Magsaysay of the Philippines received the award in 1985. He was given the Right Livelihood Award from Sweden in 1992. Canada’s World Organization of Natural Medicine awarded him the Doctor of Humanitarian title in 2009. The International Public Health Heroes Award was given in 2010 in Berkeley, USA. Voice for Global Bangladeshis, an organization of expatriate Bangladeshis in the UK, gave Zafrullah Chowdhury the ‘NRB Liberation War Hero 1971’ award in 2022.
