Dhaka Bureau: Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and US Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken are going to sit in on a bilateral meeting in Washington.
A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting of the two foreign ministers will be held to advance diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and the United States. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday at 2 p.m. (US time).
In the meeting, Bangladesh will try to develop relations with the United States in terms of trade and investment.
Apart from reiterating the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to return the murderer, they will discuss the lifting of the ban on RAB and various issues related to mutual interest. Apart from this, cooperation between the two countries in dealing with the climate crisis, the safe return of Rohingyas to Myanmar, and UN peacekeeping operations in regional security will be discussed.
A diplomatic source said the US may raise issues related to democracy and human rights at the meeting.
The foreign minister is scheduled to return home on April 13.
Earlier, Momen had a meeting with Blinken on April 4 of last year. The meeting was held on the occasion of celebrating 50 years of Bangladesh’s relations with the United States.
