Dhaka Bureau: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the capital’s risky markets will be identified and action will be taken quickly. Businesses should vacate buildings that the fire service has identified or will do as hazardous. The city corporation will take measures to make the place affected by the fire in Bangabazar a modern and safe market.
The minister said this in response to questions from reporters after visiting the scene of the fire on Wednesday (April 5) around 3 pm.
The Home Minister said, when the fire broke out at 6:10, the fire service unit arrived within two to three minutes and started working to control the fire. But the fire spread before the eyes. Although the expert officials of the fire service came, they faced obstacles due to various reasons. A fire broke out at the police headquarters next door. Some damage was also done to the police headquarters. But four markets were completely destroyed in the fire. Several members of the fire service were injured.
Referring to the formation of two investigation committees, the minister said that an investigation committee has been formed on behalf of the fire service. Another has been made from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Addressing the businessmen, the Home Minister said that targeting the upcoming Eid, they took money from friends and relatives and picked up the goods. But everything was destroyed in a terrible fire. The prime minister is always monitoring the fire incident and what to do about it, he will decide later.
In response to the question whether to rehabilitate the traders or whether you are thinking about something else, the Home Minister said, it will be decided. It was also tendered by the City Corporation. One also made a contract. Then on the request of the traders, the High Court gave a stay order.
In response to a question about the water crisis, he said, “We are organizing the fire service.” Without water supply, the fire service becomes helpless. City Corporation and Rajuk will take measures to have water supply.
