Khagrachari Correspondent: In protest against the killing of a member of the UPDF (Prasit) named Hlasingmong Marma in Manikchari of Khagrachari, a road blockade is going on in five upazilas of the district. Due to the blockade, long-distance traffic is suspended. Meanwhile, law enforcement forces are stationed on various roads for security.
However, no untoward incident has been reported so far. In a statement, UPDF demanded the immediate arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment.
On Wednesday (April 5), Matiranga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zakaria and Guimara Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Monir Hossain confirmed this information.
It is known that Hlachingmong Marma was injured in the beating of local people on the complaint of extortion at Balur Point in the Kalapani Schoolpara area of Yogyachola Union of Manikachhari Upazila of the district. After receiving the news, Manikachari Police Station rescued him and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex. From there, he died on the way to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
Meanwhile, as a result of the blockade, all types of long-distance traffic between the city and the city has been suspended since Wednesday morning. Apart from this, the internal roads of the district are also closed. Small vehicles, including autorickshaws and motorcycles, were seen plying in Khagrachari town and various upazilas. The night coaches left Dhaka and were delivered to Sadar Upazila under police guard at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
Inspector (Investigation) Md. Monir Hossain said that the police have been in the field since Wednesday morning. Vehicles are being delivered to their destinations smoothly since morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zakaria said that traffic has been kept normal since Wednesday morning under police guard. There were no major incidents surrounding the siege. Additional police are deployed at various points to avoid any kind of vandalism.
