Dhaka Bureau: Awami League leader Monayem Hossain James has been granted bail in the case of raping a student at Eden College. Accused James is a member of the executive committee of the Tarash Upazila Awami League of Sirajganj and a former joint general secretary of the Dhaka College Chhatra League.
Today, Thursday, March 30, James surrendered in the court of Roksana Begum Happy, Acting Judge of the Dhaka Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-2.

Prior to this, on February 5, the victim girl filed a case against Monayem Hossain James at the Lalbagh police station in Dhaka. The other accused in this case are James’ father, Abdul Wahab, and brother, Zakir Hossain.
It is said in the statement of the case that James developed a love relationship with the plaintiff (a college student) while studying at Eden College in Dhaka. At one point, Monayem took the plaintiff to a rented house in Lalbagh Rasul Bagh and raped her multiple times as a lure for marriage. In this situation, the plaintiff became pregnant. When this was reported to James, he insisted on destroying the child. The abused woman was forced to tell the matter to James’ parents.
But they also promise marriage by saying they will spoil the child. But instead of getting married, Monayem Hussain married another girl, James, on February 3. After that, the victim student filed a case of rape at Lalbagh police station.
