50 freedom fighters honored in CU

CU representative: Chittagong University (CU) authorities have honored 50 brave freedom fighters for their contribution in the freedom struggle. This award was given at the Independence Day ceremony at the Faculty of Sociology auditorium of the university on Sunday. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. was the chief guest at the event. Shireen Akhtar and Vice-Chancellor Professor Benu Kumar Dey were the special guests. However, the CU Teachers’ Association boycotted the event.

CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Shireen Akhtar said, “Last year, we honored 50 freedom fighters. 50 more freedom fighters have been honored this year. VC, Dean will come and go. However, every year we will honor the freedom fighters who contributed to the freedom struggle.

Convener of the Independence Day Celebration Committee Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Mamun presided over the event and gave a welcome speech. Mohammad Nurul Azim Sikder. On this morning, the main formalities of the Independence Day celebrations began with a colorful procession. Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of the painting competition organized on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Apart from this, Vice Chancellor, Syndicate Member, Teacher Association Member Professor Dr. Danesh Mia, freedom fighter Jahangir Chowdhury, AH Jilani Chowdhury etc. Acting Registrar KM Noor Ahmad, Syndicate Member Professor Mohammad Abul Manchur, Professor Mohammad Khairul Islam, Proctor Nurul Azim Sikder, Assistant Proctor Afzalur Rahman, Rokan Uddin, Saurabh Saha Joy and other brave freedom fighters were present in the event.

Boycott of teachers’ association program: Meanwhile, teachers’ association has boycotted the independence day discussion meeting and awarding ceremony of freedom fighters of Chabi administration. However, despite not going to the event, the organization placed wreaths at the Bangabandhu Square and the Independence Memorial Mural.

CU Teachers Association President Prof. Mostafizur Rahman Siddiqui said that a person who has been accused of anti-independence activities and involvement with Jamaat-Shibir politics has been kept as the welcome speaker at the event. The best children of the country will be awarded there. We cannot accept this in any way. Apart from this, a person who is not associated with any administrative department of the university has been kept as the president of the program. So all in all we have boycotted the discussion program.
